Pickleball in Rutland, Vermont

Rutland supports indoor and outdoor pickleball through the city recreation center, Meadow Street courts, and private racquet facilities. The Rutland Recreation Community Center supplies three indoor nets and a published weekday court pattern, while Monsignor Thomas Connor Memorial Park has six outdoor courts for warm-weather play.

The city center is the most accessible indoor starting point because it accepts daily admission. Local players also coordinate games through PlayTime Scheduler, and the annual Rotary tournament brings a beginner learning clinic and round-robin competition to Rutland each September.

Rutland Courts, Access, and Fees

  • Rutland Recreation Community Center, 134 Community Drive. The gym has three pickleball nets. One court is available on weekdays from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM. Three-court access is offered Tuesday and Thursday from 8:00 AM to noon and Wednesday from 1:00 to 3:00 PM, subject to other programming. Daily admission for ages 12 and older is $4 for city residents and $7 for nonresidents. The center is open Monday through Friday from 6:00 AM to 8:00 PM and weekends from 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM. Call 802-773-1822 and choose option 1 for the front desk.
  • Monsignor Thomas Connor Memorial Park, 41 Meadow Street. The outdoor complex has six asphalt pickleball courts with nets. It is the main public outdoor option, but no permanent daily open-play rotation is published. Use it with arranged partners or a session organized through the local scheduling network.
  • Vermont Sport & Fitness, 40 Curtis Avenue. The private club has indoor pickleball courts, permanent lines, portable nets, and organized programs. Membership is normally required. Call 802-775-9916 for pickleball access, guest options, and court availability.
  • Rutland Racquet Club, 129 Forest Street. This private indoor facility has four pickleball-capable courts and hosts the 2026 Rotary learning clinic. Call the club before a regular visit because event access does not establish everyday public play.

Learn Pickleball in Rutland

First-time players have a specific current opportunity at the Rotary Pickleball Learning Clinic on Saturday, September 12, 2026 at Rutland Racquet Club. The clinic is led by experienced local facilitators and is part of the Build Better Friendships tournament weekend. Contact organizer Steve White at 802-236-1951 or [email protected] for the clinic time, space, and equipment details.

Outside that annual clinic, the Recreation Community Center welcomes newcomers during open play but does not publish a standing instructional class. For individual instruction at another time, use this site's Coaches section.

Open Play and the September Tournament

The Recreation Community Center's strongest three-court periods are Tuesday and Thursday from 8:00 AM to noon and Wednesday from 1:00 to 3:00 PM. A single pickleball court is otherwise available weekdays from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM. These are court-access periods inside a shared gym, so organized attendance can vary.

The fifth annual Build Better Friendships Pickleball Tournament runs September 12 and 13, 2026 at Vermont Sport & Fitness, 40 Curtis Avenue. The non-sanctioned event uses a round-robin format and costs $30 per player per event. Register for the 2026 Rutland Rotary tournament.

Joining a Game During a Rutland Visit

Solo visitors should create or join a Rutland session before arriving. Use Rutland County PlayTime Scheduler to find players and select a venue. For a weekday walk-in, the Recreation Community Center is the practical fallback; budget $7 for nonresident daily admission and call 802-773-1822 to confirm the gym schedule.

Visitors with partners can use the six outdoor courts at Meadow Street or the city center's indoor courts. Vermont Sport & Fitness and Rutland Racquet Club are private facilities, so arrange access before going. Tournament-week visitors can join the Rotary event or contact Steve White at 802-236-1951 about the beginner clinic.
